Came to the edge of a cornfield in NJ and stopped short to watch three big vultures picking away at a woodchuck or something. Suddenly they all hopped about 10 feet away like prize-fighters to their corners. I thought I had spooked them.

Then down came this little hawk to take a bite, and then he flew back to the top of the telephone pole nearby where he had gone unnoticed by me. And the vultures moved back in. A minute later they all hopped back to their corners as the little guy came back in for more.

This continued until I got bored and left. It was really amazing to see those huge vultures (5 to 6 foot wing-span compared to the little hawk’s 15-inches ?) do their quick-step as soon as the hawk lifted his wings to glide down. He barely gave them a look either.

Vultures, bullies and politicians are all alike... weak cowards.

The little hawk has valor.
