I was like 5 or 6 when both of these shows were on so I don’t remember much about them but Highway Patrol showed a little eastern seaboard kid what California (and the western U.S.) was like. Couldn’t wait to see it for myself.
“Just the facts, maam.”
“TEN-FOUR!”
I liked M SQUAD with Lee Marvin.
And I liked a British detective show DETECTIVE’S DIARY in which a detective had one arm.
I can remember the theme song from Highway Patrol so clearly. My Dad never missed an episode. Brings back memories of my childhood. Can’t really say which was better. I loved them both.
That’s easy. Dragnet. No contest.
Notice in HP they never mention the brand of cars? Broderick always describes “ a tan sedan” or some other kind of model. And although it’s a huge state, Dan Matthews is never more than about five minutes away from a baddie by car or chopper once he says 10-4. Love to watch old reruns of HP anyway. Plus you can see a lot of up and comers makings their debuts as heavies.
In the 50’s and early 60’s I was watching Captain Kangaroo and Colonel Bleep.
Real heroes, in my book.
‘Surfside 6’ had the best theme song. ‘Route 66’ and ‘Peter Gunn’ were pretty good, too. As far as other TV shows from the era, I can still picture Preston Foster steering his tugboat on ‘Waterfront’, and that great big schooner, with all the sails from ‘James A. Michener’s Adventures in Paradise’, starring Gardner McKay. I wish I was a teenager in the ‘60s again.
