There was a terrific novel with a story like this: The Ropespinner Conspiracy by Michael Thomas. His main characters Manning Mallory (think Jamie Dimon) and Waldo Chamberlain (think White) conspire to produce a financial and banking system that eventually implodes. The idea is for them to defect to Moscow and announce what they did as the final act to blowing up the West. The title is based on the famous communist quote about selling us the rope to hang ourselves:

Just finished “operation Snow” Kostner 2012.. Latest info re White and MANY other communists in influential positions during WWII by a “liberal” leaning author. Lots of history we never knew. Ex Tojo, not really a “Bad” guy

Interesting that it was Harry Dexter White who authored The Morgenthau Plan for post war Germany where Germany would be reduced to a pure agricultural economy and all industry would be prohibited. White not only delivered a copy to the Soviets but also made sure it was leaked to the media, and the Nazis had a propaganda field day with it.

US Military officials believed it ended any possibility of the German Army defying Hitler and offering a separate peace on the Western front which was Stalin's biggest fear.

If the Morgenthau Plan had been actually carried out, it would have resulted in a greater holocause than what Hitler accomplished.

This is news? We already knew from the famous “Venona Cables” that Harry Dexter White was a communist and had been spying for the Soviet Union.

Why are papers “unearthed at Princeton University” more believable than Soviet cables decrypted by the end of WWII and declassified — by Democratic senator of NY, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, of all people — in 1995?
