Author does not understand ‘ survival of the fitest’
He said:
“The short version is that we often think of evolution as being the survival of the fittest, where the strong and the dominant survive and the soft and weak perish. But essentially, far from the survival of the leanest and meanest, the success of dogs comes down to survival of the friendliest.”

Just my opinion, but don't believe dogs descended from wolf and more than a coyote did. each is specific species.. There are still wild dogs in certain parts of the world. Had nothing to do with wolfs. Since they can interbreed and have fertile offspring, they are on the same branch of genetic tree..
