“”The Border Sheriff (1926), starring Jack Hoxie. Is that one old enough for you?
I will have to check that movie out. It is not a matter of age, but a matter or content.”
At least watch a Gene Autry flick or something from the friggin’ sound era.
I do love Back In The Saddle, incidentally.
Well, the reasoning was because my grandfather always used to cite Jack Hoxie to me as one of his favorite cowboy stars (along with Hoot Gibson). But I’d only seen a couple of Hoxie films, and they were some bottom-barrel cheapies from the early talkie era, and not regarded as prime examples. The silents were representative of the ones my grandfather saw, and when I saw this 1926 one pop up on a cheap public-domain dvd for five bucks, I ordered a copy.
I have seen every Autry flick growing up or as an adult. I used to go to a matinee as a kid for 25 cents on Saturday mornings. They had cartoons and a triple feature. Looking back on it now, it was all about giving parents some time away from the kids. I am sure my parents ran back home to the bedroom. The movies they showed were all old at the time, but the kids loved it. There was always a western short, often Gene Autry, and many repeats. But that didn't matter. We (the kids) had a blast together. I guess this is similar to going to the mall today for kids, but much better.
