Not sure how that last one slipped in there, but what the heck.
Got this old beat up stray black Tom that lives under my porch. His name is Hobo and I feed him, don't tell City of Garland. I am going to try to trap him Monday and take him to the vet for some shots and attention. He is pretty beat up, there are a lot of Toms in this neck of the woods. I like him but he is very skittish. I'll only get one shot with my trap.
Wish me luck cat lovers.
Keep us posted on the saga of Hobo and life under the porch! Let’s hope it’s a continuing saga.
Yeah, I just hope he won’t RUNNOFT after I bring him back from the vet.
I put the trap out there last week, put his food dish in front of it. Moved it just inside a couple of days later, then a little farther inside, today I put his dish on top of the trigger for the trap. Tomorrow morning, I cut the tie wraps that have held it open and hope for the best. My vet said they would take him but only in the trap so they can knock him out and give him shots and whatever else he needs.
That boy is all beat to hell, one or the other eye is always swolled shut and he walks with a definite limp, but he is my adoptee so I’ll spend the bux to get him some medical attention.
This cat is very wary, gonna be a one chance deal. Guess we’ll find out if I am smarter than a stray Tomcat ;)
I use to guard a school overnight in the middle of nowhere. There was a big orange cat that would come in from the dessert occasionally. He did not let me near him at first. I would usually snack on fried chicken while I was there so I started leaving him a piece when I first saw him for the night. After awhile it got to the point where he didn’t care about the chicken so much he just wanted to sit in my lap for hours. Sure beats worrying about coyotes trying to eat you I figured.
Before you do that, hear this:
My ex-wife had a similar kind of cat, Marmalade, who was feral but would spend time with her. She took it to the vets for some medical attention, and when they brought it out, they brought out a dead Marmalade. As you can imagine, she was distraught with guilt.......
It is a hard row to hoe taking in stray animals. My Rocket was stray, and now he is part of the family. He was a tiny kitten under an old dishwasher on the front porch when we moved in.
I just hope that damn trap works. I tested it and shot some lube on the bearing points today, put some cardboard over the floor so it is not so hard on the pads of Hobomeister’s feet.
Hey, yeah, it’s just a cat. But I like the little bastid. He reminds me of some of my human pals. Rode hard and put away wet.
My indoor cats don’t realize how good a life they have.
Thanks for the laughs!
BTW, does anyone know why Drudgereport is down? Has he been hacked?
Chuck’s kitteh is sick and needs some attention.
Yeah, I am prepared for the worst. I figure that cat will not come within sight of me after I trap him and take him in. But, what the hell, if he don’t survive I’ll have to write him off as being in a better place.
I did what I could.
I wanted to do that but I didn’t get him caught tonight and he’ll have a belly full of food when he gets to the clinic tomorrow morning, I don’t want him to aspirate any Purina and croak.
We have five catz, all “walk-ups.” Taking them in is tough, and expensive. I had to trap one so I talked with a gal I know who traps them all the time. It sounds like you spoke with her as well...’bout the cardboard, good plan. He won’t be able to step around the trigger like catz do.
Good luck! And he won’t flee his territory when you bring him home. You might not see him for a little while....
Nice picture. I hope the doggie doesn’t go chasin’ a squirrel...that cat’s in for quite a ride!
Thanx CL, we are hoping for the best at Chez WTC tonight.
Just left Drudge before stopping here. Up and running in Detroit.
Is it just me, or does that first photo look like Finn The Human?
Hey, Chuck - wish you all kinds of luck trapping Hobo. I have a whole brood in my backyard thanks to a very beatup ol’ black tomcat that I dubbed “Mickey Rourke”(the ol’ beatup Rourke not the 9-1/2 wks dude). He hits, he runs, and then a few months later, more black kittens in my backyard. Can’t trap the BabyMama either (they’re an elusive couple). Did manage to trap her babies so thank the Lord for that.
I know a big, fat black street cat who I call Gremlin. He only loves me when he’s hungry, or when it’s cold or raining. Then he comes inside and cuddles up to me like he’s my best friend, and he even made friends with my dog. But as soon as the sun goes down, he’s begging to be let out. Sometimes I don’t see him for days. And sometimes he comes back smelling like perfume. Expensive stuff, like Notorious or White Diamonds. I think Gremlin is an expert hustler. There are probably half a dozen people in this neighborhood who think he’s their cat. Maybe that’s why he’s so fat.
