Vanity: Is tonight's showing of Shindler's List a warning from Spielberg, or simply an observance?

Is Spielberg, an ardent Democrat supporter, warning the American people by showing his outstanding film that bad things can happen to helpless populations? Or is he simply observing the 20-years since the making of a movie about the Nazi destruction of the Jewish people?
There is certainly a theme in the film about an unarmed population being overtaken by a military force unafraid to shoot civilians. And so today we have military commanders who have assured Obama that they are prepared to follow illegal orders and also do this very thing.
Or am I being paranoid?

Well, when my wife called me from the other room to tell me it was on, I wasn't really interested. I don't believe I have ever watched it all the way through.

Interesting Idea:
Other spielberg films
Jaws-bad guy was the Mayor (who was screwing up by bowing to capitalism however)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Big govt. was secretive and liars)
Raiders of the Lost Ark - at the end of the movie the Ark of the Covenant got lost in a government warehouse.
E.T. The bad guys were the govt people in radiation suits coming to take ET away to the govt. labs.
Jurasic Park Runaway capitalism is bad.
Minority Report- Govt. makes mistakes in preemtive justice.
Those are the Spielberg movies I’ve seen and although it is a mixed bag, He does seem to be very wary of govt. and also wary of capitalism.

I didn't say I have never seen it. I just said I don't remember seeing it all the way through at one time. I have have many times seen parts of it in endless stretches. Three and a half hours is long enough for brain surgery.
