After a lifetime of being a Republican, I'm leaving the GOP and registering as a Democrat. Why? I've tried to change the GOP from within, wiht little luck, so I figure it's time I help to change the Democrat Party from within....

Evangelizing in Hell might seem noble, but YOU are singularly ill equipped.

Yeah, who knows, maybe you can find ways to get free government benefits. All the Democrats do it.

What ever became of Paul Ryan?

He was the great spoon of sugar to get us to accept Romney.
Now he is no where to be heard.

*we’re done with that, lets move on to Rubio and Jindal* /s

I like Rubio and Jindal but they need to spend more time behind the lines to gain the faith of the minority skin color based assholes.

Poor Paul Ryan, his message was dead on, but he was a pastey white Republican.
That will never do in todays skin sensitive environment.

I think this is a good idea. Don’t listen to the ones who think politics is like rooting for your high school football team. The GOPe is just as traitorous as the Dems.

The GOPe will not pay attention to conservatives until enough membership is lost that they take notice.

I registered Independent in Colorado in 2007. Democrat or Independent, it works for me. I’m not staying registered as a member of a party that is allowing the fiscal destruction of America.

I’ll rejoin the Republican party as soon as conservatives are desired in the party again. In the meantime I’ll vote conservative and stay registered indy. And screw worrying about the primaries, that’s a waste of time too.

Probably just as useful as anything else folks can come up with - good luck and stay sane.

LOL ... your assessment brought the house to tears. The house may never recover, and one has to ask is that a good thing. There will have to be white wine the next time being consumed and alternating between beverages as not to see a posted truth, in such endeavors as giving out secret information. Am still laughing here. Thank You!

“I continue to hear the argument (strongly supported by the establishment) that a third party is hopeless. But, I continue to wonder if a third party isn’t now an easier path to representation than attempting to change either the existing Democrat or Republican parties.”

A “third party” (one with a chance of being effective) will only emerge IF one of the existing parties begins shrinking.

Of the two “major” parties, which is ascendant, and which one appears to be in decline?

It should already be clear to many folks here that the Republican party no longer can claim to be a “national” party. In certain areas of the country (most notably the northeast and along the west and mid-atlantic coasts) the influence of the Pubbies has diminished to the point where the party is little more than a “white dwarf” — existant in name, but no longer capable of weilding any power.

The 2014 and 2016 elections will reveal whether the “Republican party” will have any kind of future — or if it will simply fade away towards irrelevance on the national scale.

If the Pubbies continue to act as they are acting now — as losers — and if they lose in ‘14 and again in ‘16, they may wither to the point where a new party may begin to emerge as a replacement. Not necessarily because the new party was gaining steam at a high rate, but because the Republcans were simply disappearin’.

The “Incredible Shrinking Republicans” will create a political vacuum.
Something must arise to fill it.

You aren’t going to change the Democrat party from within. Worse, in order to go to their functions and talk with them you’ll have to endlessly lie about your beliefs. You will have to pretend to adopt at least some Democrat positions in order to maintain your cover. If you’re the kind of person who likes trolling liberal internet forums you might be able to get away with this for awhile, but if you are a decent person I bet you’d find lying that much to people in person isn’t appealing.

If you really want to help, the best way is to encourage the division between red and blue in the United States. If you are in a blue state, move to a red or purple one. If you’re really into trying to influence people, go for the purple state where you can help tip the balance to conservatives. If you want piece of mind and vote properly but don’t feel like battling with others all the time, just go for a red state.

What we really need to do is concentrate conservatives in states so we have decisive voter advantages solid enough to do the complete opposite of what liberal states are doing - and challenge the federal government (ignore its rules, etc). Basically, red states need to go so low tax, regulation and as purely free market as we can so that the blue states lose so many businesses and productive people that they literally can’t fund their social welfare states. This will compel the leftist Federal government to try to “even the playing field” so blue states can compete, and will kick off absolute red state defiance against the Federal government (refusing to pay new taxes, etc). This is only real chance going forward.

True story: Our AC was out at work, it was becoming habitual in frequency, The temp at my station was 104,I was told to shut down the electronics lest they burn up.

I thought "I WILL NOT!!!, Yall don't give a rats ass if it is 104 and I am sweating my balls off.
The only way to effect change is if this electronic gear burns up.
THAT will get your freaking attention, and here I am, the loyal worker sweating my balls off till the last microprocessor takes a ****, here I am." Well that did not get it done so I elevated the message until I got the ear of a bean counter that said "By God! We have to get this AC fixed lest I have to explain away equipment losses on the balance sheet." I got sympathetic ears along the way as to work conditions too. You do what you gotta do to effect change.

Actually it can be very useful to slip in among the enemies of freedom and gather intelligence. During our revolution brave patriots served as spies to gather vital information. Keep a low profile and learn their tactics, systems, and membership. Seek to gain (legally) whatever information you can.

And then figure out how that knowledge can be used to help the cause of freedom.

Standing up and showing your true beliefs will cut short your mission, although ultimately you may want to try to gradually influence the local group you join once you have their trust.

PS Oh, and liberal chicks are easy.

I seriously think that's the only reason Slick Willy became a Democrat.

Lots of differing opinions on this one...

Here is a conundrum...
Is it better to help the democrats put up loser candidates, or is it better to continue to go to the Republican caucus and primaries only to see the Rino candidate keep getting picked by the majority of the GOP?

Nothing is black and white my friend.
We all sin and suffer.
We all dance and delight.

The difference between us and the Dems is that we offer independence of thought, and soul.

Or at least we should.

The bottom line for me is that I honestly believe that Dems in all of their hand wringing sympathy for man, strip us of resolve and purpose.

It is just that simple for me
I have a heart.
But dems often let their hearts cloud the long term view
Democrats are a party that promotes thumb sucking and curling up in a corner while the Party officials stroke your worried brow

Republicans promote standing alone, and they often leave you out there standing alone.
Conservatives will give you some dinner, beer and a laugh after the work is done.

I have changed them.

One of the biggest obstacles is that you have to teach them self worth and humility of pride.

Don't listen to any of these a-hole naysayers. There is a reason that the GOP is the Stupid Party, and that is because there are too many members of it that think like naive idiots. Meanwhile, the Dems are ruthless devious and cunning and will consider no trick off limits.

Go for it. My advice is not to come at them straight forward. You join up and figure out which of their "values" seem to be in line with yours (i.e. Power to the People!) and you promote those values to the extreme. A good example of this would be to take advantage of the Left's famously anti-government attitude ("burn it all down, man). Now that the Left is in charge, taking that leftist anti-government attitude to the extreme would hurt the Left's most prominent guys. For example, you constantly harp on Obama and his illegal wars. You rant and rave about the racist fascism of the ATF, the FBI, the police, etc. Use key issues that are near and dear to the rank-and-file Left. Medical marijuana is a good one. Every time the feds raid a dispensary in CA, WAshington, or wherever, you rant and rave about the corporate fascism of the Obama regime and how they are just tools of the ruling class. Talk about how Dems are no better than the Rethuglicans and voting for Obama might as well have been voting for Bush III.

In other words, demoralize the living hell out of the Dems in your area, to where they are convinced that even their own politicians suck. Leave them so broken they don't even want to vote or participate any more. Take their own values to such an extreme that it is impossible for even the most leftwing politician to uphold them, then spew your venom at them when they fail to do so. When other Dem voters at meetings, or whatever, get incensed at your extremism, accuse them of being undercover Republicans and right-wing fascists. Find racism, sexism, and homophobia in EVERYTHING that your fellow Dems do.

I've thought for a while now that every conservative in a solidly blue state, like CA, should register Democrat and vote for the most conservative Dem in the primary. Voting Republican in CA is a joke and serves nothing. Infiltrating the Dem party as a bloc and voting for the least leftwing of the top candidates will eventually water down their ideology over time.

If you're wondering whether all of this will work, you have no need. I guarantee that it will. How do I know? Because that's what they did to us over the last 50 years, and look where we are.
