I thought the worst was when Halle Berry won for best actress and praised the groundbreaking moment. The membership erupted in self congratulation while not realizing it was themselves who had never nominated or awarded an oscar to a black female for best actress. Normal Americans never had a vote, only the membership of the academy had that privilege.

You’re right. I just watched that on youtube. How pathetic. That building was just dripping with self-importance, which it seems to every year, and why I never watch the sad spectacle. So many fake tears and thanks to meaningless people, when all they really want to do is yell, “I am so awesome!”

I remember that year. She won and her boyfriend stood up trying to get a standing ovation. That was the last year I was serious about watching the Academy Awards.
