February 15, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) Mobile users tempted to visit pornographic websites on their smartphones have another reason to think twice before clicking on the link: they could find their phones infected with malware.
According to a new study from Blue Coat Systems, the risk of finding malicious content is three times higher when visiting x-rated websites than any other type of mobile activity.
Nearly one-quarter of all malware on smartphones is found after visiting a pornographic site, even though porn use makes up a small percentage of user activity on mobile devices.
The Blue Coat report described porn as the great weakness for mobile users.
According to the report, mobile malware tends to take the form of scams, spam and phishing, often focused on stealing personal information.
Hugh Thompson, chief security strategist for Blue Coat described clicking on porn sites as a form of Russian roulette.
"For reasons that are not apparently obvious, pornography is a particularly high risk category for mobile web threats," said Chris Pace, product and solutions specialist at Blue Coat.
"It may be that individuals' slightly more personal relationship with their mobile device means that perhaps they are more comfortable doing that kind of browsing from mobile devices than if they were connected to a desktop machine in the office or at home," he said.
Blue Coat recommended blocking all content to mobile and desktop devices from porn sites.
Isn’t web porn malware in and of itself?
Cannot really understand why porn sites use so much malware and virus.
It’s obvious they want visitors, so why do they attack the visitor?
point.
Le dernier cri in plagues, VVVD. Venero-video-viral disease!
I suspect the malware tries to extract credit card information from infected systems and send it back to them. Prety much the behavior one would expect from pornographers.
The Visitors are Obsessed and are not rational
The Mal-ware is used to create Bot Nets and
siphon personal data for various scams
It's not so much why would a porn site use malware as much as why a malware site would use porn.
“Nearly one-quarter of all malware on smartphones is found after visiting a pornographic site, even though porn use makes up a small percentage of user activity on mobile devices.”
Like hell.
Windows phone is the most secure phone OS.
Deal with the devil, get burned.
Because they don't make money from letting you look at porn. They make money from hosting malware.
As Satan also guides those who sit in their mothers’ basements and create viruses and malware? Or is it as I suspect, paid operatives of those who sell anti-virus and computer repair services, creating a problem for which to sell solutions?
