Frankly, a 14 year old in 1930's Germany cannot be held to full account for their participation in things like Hitler Youth. Even if they got caught up in it, they were being subjected to a propaganda machine that was even more pervasive than what we conservatives face in today's United States. And look at how influential today's media is with the low information voter.

That being said, the young future Pope sounds as though he already was seeing evil for what it was and had proper discernment. He made some courageous stands at an early age.
