allocution \al-uh-KYOO-shuhn\, noun
1. A formal speech, especially one of an incontrovertible or hortatory nature.
2. A pronouncement delivered by the pope to a secret consistory, especially on a matter of policy or of general importance.

Etymology:
Allocution stems from the Latin root alloquī which meant to "to speak, address." The suffix -ion forms nouns from stems, as in the words communion and opinion.

The most frequent use of this word in modern English is in criminal court. Hannity will have Dr. Ben Carson on for a whole hour long interview Friday night, after his allocution at the Prayer Breakfast. I will try to tune in. ....The man has an irrefrangible character, unlike 0's or his sidekick, Biden's........Carson did an awesome job of expostulating Obamacare and has become the darling of the right. The cacophony on the left protesting the speech, cannot refute him. The best they could do was to say it was inappropriate in the setting. I am guessing 0 and Crazy Uncle Joe won't be interdigitating with Carson and singing Kumbaya anytime soon.
