I liked Star Wars 1 - the original. The two that followed were marginal, and the clips I’ve seen of the prequels kept me out of the theaters. Star Trek TOS was good for its time, and better than most of what followed. The rebooting is too juvenile and cartoonish. The TV series had higher standards for plots. Well, mostly. But the people who watch those movies aren’t exactly military veterans who might question a 20 year old in charge of a star ship.

The Empire Strikes Back is far and away the best Star Wars movie, better even than the original.

You’re right about the prequels though. They’re terrible.

True, but I'd like to add the cinematography was miserable. The lens flare and hand held camera scenes, something genuinely new and developed and seen in Firefly and Battlestar Galactica used to be "spice" added in small doses. There was far too much of both all through the movie to the point where I was getting nauseated.

Finally someone who feels the same way about Star wars as I do. Star wars has to be without a doubt one of the most overrated movie franchises in history. The concept was phenomenal but the execution was horrendous. The first movie in 1977 was great, but the other two in the early 80s were ridiculous. Like you said, cartoonish...puppets and cartoons. Oh yes and Teddy bears. They had to throw Teddy bears in as well but call them “Ewoks”. And the ones later on in the 2000s were horrendous.. All that money and they couldn’t even hire someone who could act for the lead part. I just do not get the obsession for Star wars at all. Now Abrams is supposedly doing a new one with all the original actors from 1977, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher (who now looks like Mike Bloomberg in drag) and Harrison Ford who I believe is 70 now. Sounds like a pathetic attempt to cash in to me.
