And here come the dogs !!!
My mare & daughter:
Yup, I like your horse better. Sweet, kind eye, looks like a been there, do anything kind of equine friend. But then again I don’t aspire to win some Arabian Horse World Cup, either.
I’ve got a Siamese cat. She would make a show breeder cringe because she lacks that Praying Mantis head. But I didn’t get her to show or breed, and she’s a great pet.
A little off topic, but tonight just isn’t looking like Barky’s night to hog the TeeVee for SOTU. He’s up against Westminster, it’s Mardi Gras, and it looks like the police have Dorner cornered (as per Fox)
Sucks to be O’Bummer (ROFL!).
Fifi won the breed - can she go Best?
Oh, poor O’Bummer. Nobody is going to bother with his blather tonight.
You don’t need to outlaw bad breeding. You could start with a simple rule like “any puppies born by c-section can’t obtain full registration with the AKC.” They might make fine pets, but the line shouldn’t continue.
Basically, if the AKC didn’t promote these excessive traits, you wouldn’t see them very much.
NIGHT 2: Tuesday, February 12 Sporting, Working and Terrier Groups, Best In Show 8-11 p.m. (ET) live on USA Network
Live Breed judging videos are available throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday on the Westminster Web site. These videos will be available to view after the show, as well.
To our West Coast viewers: Please note that the West Coast telecast is delayed for your time zone. Since results are posted to our Web site as they occur live, if you want to enjoy the drama of the moment (and want to skip Obama's Distaste for the Union Speech), please avoid the Westminster Web site after 5 p.m. Pacific Time on each evening.
The Sporting group is looking very strong! Love the German Wiredhaired Pointer.
Ugh! I can’t watch now.
USA won’t be showing this until 20h00m west coast time (3 hours from now).
have fun with the doggies and the judge’s fashion show!!
Oh, that’s too bad. I love watching Westminster having exhibited there once. If I ever go back, I’ll have to remember what NOT to wear.
BTW I love the Purina commercials.
Also, if you have a good breeder they will know how to do a correct puppy evaluation litter.
Those of us who have trained humans to wait on us.
Don't blame me. The dog made me write this
A face only a mother could love! (or a dog lover).
BTW - American Bull Dog?
Swagger, Old English Sheepdog, sashays into the ring.
I just got home.
Have no idea who won what.
I always watch the breed matches online instead, anyway.
They’re breeding horses for meat, now?
>Maybe but “coincidentally”, his breed of dog won over Fifi.<
There is no shortage of liberals in the dog show world. Maybe, but that is a nice, nice Portie.
But NOT as good as Fifi! 8-P
Why the hell do the judges invariably select smaller breeds for best in show?
You’ll not find a lot of liberal Dobe owners.
The largest Dobe forum on the net has chat rooms wherein we all gripe about Obeyme, discuss what guns we prefer and agree as one mind that we despise peta and all eco-freaks.
Same with the snake forums.
Very few liberals there, either.
I just watched the breed ring judging.
There seems to be another ‘fad’ replacing the old sickle-hock syndrome; “strange” top lines.
Several of the dogs were sway backed as judged by the standard, IMO.
The standard calls for a “straight top line that slightly slopes to the rear” and apparently they’re obsessing over the “straight” part now, to the point of being flat like a table.
This is not ergonomically rational unless you happen to be a Fox Terrier.
It messes up the gait.
Very few were single tracking, either.
[Fifi leaves ‘one line of paw prints’...she singles like a dream]
There was a nice black male there too that I hope comes back next year.
Haven’t finished watching yet to see if he placed or not.
FWIW, if I were running the world of Dobes, I would -stop- breeding Fawns and Blues.
By the time they’re 4 or 5, they’re going bald and have immune system issues as a matter of course.
That is *not* an acceptable “breed trait”.
[but hey, we gotta have something “different looking”, ya know]
I’m happy that ear length seems to be becoming more sane, as well.
Those trot-flopping full length “Crusader Rabbit” ears are a joke.
I see the standard now allows *4* missing teeth.
The Euros allow NO missing teeth.
Missing teeth correlate to head structure and soundness and should not be allowed here, either.
But, there it is.
*4*.
[in the late 70’s, I remember being horrified that *2* were “allowed”]
