Happy, Happy, Happy as the patriarch of the Robinson family would say.

Of course they are. That’s why they were split. I can’t remember what the other one is called; but is well known.

Most anything that you get competitive with be it a flower show or dog show is corrupt to some degree. Some more than others.

Showing dogs should be ALL about the betterment of the breed, whether it be health, longevity or performance of original task.

Too bad that’s been lost to vanity and fashion.

I have a couple of friends who have two field trial labs who do very well. They also have two mastiffs. The mastiffs always accompanied them to the field trials. When the youngest one was still a pup he won a ribbon because he went out in the water to retrieve while most of the pups who were bred for it would not. there are also two poodles that field trial. Of course, that’s what they are bred or were bred for. They are water dogs.

Awwww....good Mastiff...:)

Standard Poodles also make excellent police and guard dogs.

They’re an extremely smart and versatile breed.

Yes they are. We have one down the street who is the friendliest dog. She is wonderful to be around.

She probably picks your lock and raids your fridge while you’re not home.

The commercials are better than the ones on the Super Bowl.

Absolutely. I loved the ones about selling cars to dogs.

Thanks for the ping. I am still grireving because I had to put my precious Golden Retriever down on Friday. Even though we had been treating him for some undiagnosed ailment for the last 6 months, it was still a shock. All of his tests and exams had not revealed anything. Post mortem exam determined that he had Pancreatic Cancer. But, my heart is heavy and the house is empty.

Yesterday there was a big dog who crossed my back yard (12 acres). We NEVER see a dog running loose around here. This big fella crossed my yard twice — east to west and west to east. My dog would never have allowed that. Gone 3 days and now we have encroachers!

I’m so sorry for your loss. Our first rescue was a Golden/Brittany and she was a sweet, sweet girl.

So sorry for your loss. Perhaps that dog running around your yard is trying to tell you something? :-)

Yes. It gave me chills. A phantom dog. He wasn’t close, but at first I thought he was a black and tan, then on 2nd sight a black lab. But, it was just uncanny. I never would have seen another dog here. They wouldn’t have dared enter — not that Max was mean, but he would have warned off any encroaching dog. I keep watching out the window to see if he comes back.

We’d had lot of new snow, and this mysterious dog was just romping through. Having fun.

“That’s what they were bred for. Herding.”

Then their ‘breeders’ are damn incompetent!

But realistically, they haven’t bred any significant numbers of GSDs for herding for 100+ years. Nor would the AKC know anything about any working dog. They breed for looks. They have largely ruined the Australian Shepherd, and want to ruin Border Collies as well.

When humans breed for looks, they indulge in fads and go nuts. Look at a halter bred Quarter Horse - they are ridiculous. So many breeds have been ruined by AKC-types who have forgotten WHY the dog breeds came about to begin with.

“You have to have a standard for breeds. If you didn’t have these you wouldn’t have the breed...”

Odd. Border Collies have done just fine without a breed standard for looks.

“Also, the GSD is very good at herding.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We watched last night and got a good laugh at the female handlers. Why do they always dress so badly? They wear evening clothes that don’t fit and certainly aren’t good to wear while running.
