Cutworms are about the only problem I have around here with tomatoes, and a little bit of aluminum foil fixes that problem.

I know most of the pecan trees sold around here are papershells grafted onto native stock, and understand why. I was just unaware of grafted tomatoes.

I'll stick with my Romas for bulk production.

I’ve heard of people grafting tomatoes onto other members of the nightshade family, particularly ones that were growing as weeds already. On the one hand, it’s a great way to make your weeds work for you. On the other hand, you’d have to be careful just which nightshade you were grafting onto. There was a case I read where they had used jimsonweed as the rootstock. It grew tomato vines that were bushy, vigorous, extremely productive. . . and highly poisonous. Landed the entire family in the hospital.
