So, when someone gets a phone call on their cell phone, and they don't notice, what do you say to them?
"Your phone is ringing," doesn't work, because they don't ring any more.

Dial tones.
Test patterns.
That blue square on my tool bar I click to save a file.
Window handles in the car.
Car radios.
Stereo systems.
Taking a long walk just to think.

"Your phone is ringing," doesn't work, because they don't ring any more. And when you're getting a lot of calls on your cell phone, can you still say the phone is "ringing off the hook"?
