Philologists say slang comes from criminal or fringe subcultures, which used publicly long enough becomes popularized, hence passe. You probably don't know the current terms unless you're "with it." I don't.
But as a Texan, you know "big one" = $1000 and "Big Money" = Beaumont. TX = oil, right?
