Out for the season, most likely. And from what I heard, she was ripping it up.

She put in a request to compete in the men’s downhill. Denied.

Tiger Woods will be at her bedside, holding her hand, shortly.

Awfull news to hear about one of our country's best female skiers. Prayers for her complete recovery and return to World Cup competition.

The posted jokes about her are out of line and show how far this site has devolved in the past 13 years........Not cool.

With that being said, any ski racing enthusiasts here remember Bill Johnson who won the Gold Medal in the downhill back in the 1984 olympics? His life has been a tragic story ever since.

In 1992 his 13 month old son drowned in a hot tub, his marriage ended in a divorce, and during a come-back attempt for the 2002 olympics, in 2001 he crashed and suffered extensive brain injury which requires constant care, being provided by his mother......

Awful news to read about one of our best female skiers, my prayers go out to her for a complete recovery and return to the World Cup circuit.

For the life of me I can't understand the jokes being made at her expense on this thread, they are uncalled for. Just further evidence on how far this site has devolved in terms of tolerance for this crap over the past 13 years...........

With that being said, are there any true ski racing enthusiasts reading this thread? If so, remember Bill Johnson, the downhill gold medal winner in the 1984 olympics? Here's an informative article on the tragedies he's endured since that gold medal day.....

Bill Johnson today

thanks for link. I agree those jokes are uncalled for. She is seriously injured and it will take some time for her recovery, she may not be able to be in the 2014 Olympics for this country.

Saw the video. Sad she broke it, I’ve seen worse crashes and the person was just shaken up. She must have hit that pole on the flag/gate just right. At least it wasn’t such a terrible break the leg looks terribly out of place.

I guess I'm a skiing purist at heart since I grew up on skis in northern Michigan and raced as a teenager.

I don't like snowboarding or especially the coverage it's been given these days via the X-games and such, at the exclusion of the World Cup racing. Those are merely acrobatics on a board.

I met Stein Erickson when he was an instructor at Boyne Mtn. back in the late 50's, I cheered Jean Claude Killy thru his skiing career and his olympic medals at the 1968 olympics, Phil and Steve Mahre were my idols but my all time favorite racer was Marc Girardelli, who in my opinion was the greatest ski racer of all time...........Franz Klammer was good, but only on the downhill.

She was having a great run but the crash is awful to watch. Her right knee was bent, with her foot planted, as she slid and that's what probably broke her shin. She has torn her ACL and MCL. Ugly crash. Prayers, for a full recovery.

Franz Klammer’s run in the 76 Olympics is still one of the greatest Olympic moments, ever. He flirted with disaster the whole way down, but he came through.

No question about it and I would never argue that Klammer wasn't perhaps the best downhiller ever.........I'll leave it at that.

Back around 1985 or 86, I skied Sunshine Village in Alberta, Canada right after the Husky World Cup Championship and had the nervous pleasure of sking the slope where the downhill was held.........The vertical drop was incredible and to think that skiers were flying straight down this slope with all their focus on trying to go faster..........Its unimaginable
