"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Evening all. Superbowl Sunday is here and I'll be away from the computer for a while. Will check in when/as soon as I can. Post your predictions! I see the Ravens’s taking it if they play as they have been.

Kind surprised Ed didn't have a football theme tonight...but we have a whistler!

Hi, Vision! It's a strange lineup.

Don't know who'll win the "Big Game," but we'll probably listen to it on the radio, so the Big Broadcast will have some competition tonight.

I hope you had a good week and weekend. Earlier today, Keith slow-smoked (mesquite) a pork shoulder according to one of the BBQ Pit Boys' methods, with brown sugar, apple juice and onions. I'll make my really good homemade macaroni and cheese to go with it.

Hi Gina, all is well up here, we have been getting an inch of snow here and there. Hope to be home early tonight. All well with you?

Mesquite smoked pork? Interesting, tell me how it turns out. Mesquite is a wood I've yet to get comfortable with or maybe use it correctly. I think a little goes a long way...and it's best with southwest style spices. Grilled up some sausages for lunch yesterday and a skirt steak for dinner. I'll be skipping superbowl food to come home to that.

Kinda figured Ed would at least run the old Andy Griffith bit on football...but maybe he did that at the beginning of the season.

Sounds like you're pretty chilly up there, Vision. The day could not be more beautiful here, mild and sunny.

The pork is delicious. It's still resting after he took it off about 40 minutes ago, but I tasted it. We use fresh mesquite on everything, and it's fine. There's pecan around here, too, we use sometimes.

I can't remember if Ed did the Andy Griffith football this season or not.

Keith said that this time he used mostly pecan with just a little bit of mesquite. It’s good.

If Keith ever wants a world class pork injection recipe, let me know. Weather permitting, I'll be doing two butts next weekend with it.

Hi, Doc! I’m glad to hear the surgery sounds like it went well. I hope it heals up super-fast for you.

We’re listening to the game on the radio. So far, so good. We’re not really cheering much for either team, but it’s nice to listen.

This power outage is FREAKISH! Kevin Harlan and Boomer are very spooked by it. Now it looks like the power is getting back on. Those radio guys were scared, and they got back on the air on a cell phone. Bizarre!

Vision, we heard that, too. Dead air. We were going to our radios, and the station board-ops recovered quickly and slammed to break. When Kevin and Boomer came back on, they were on a shared cell phone. It was creepy, and Kevin was awfully spooked—heck, they both were, and the spookiness was transferred to us listeners.

This silly game. I had hoped for a blowout so I could catch the Whistler...and SF is making a great run at it. It is a great game though...
