After stating earlier in the week that gay football players "gotta get up outta here," San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver released a statement Wednesday night insisting "those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart."
While it's fair to wonder if the latter sentiment was prompted by Culliver's publicist, the second-year cornerback is at least taking a proactive approach to assisting the community he offended. Culliver will undergo sensitivity training and then work with "The Trevor Project" in the weeks after Super Bowl XLVII, reported the San Jose Mercury News, to learn more about suicide prevention among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.
"We really feel that education about LGBT youth and the challenges they face is a great way to get (Chris) started on the right path," said Lauren McGinnis, communications director for The Trevor Project, "especially since he's a role model."

Paul Tagliabue’s son is gay. That’s been a big part of the gay friendly move in the NFL head offices. It’s not compatible with football culture. I feel for this Culliver guy. He can’t even be himself, he has been reeducated.
Why are you defending the NFL?
If the man isn't comfortable with homosexuals playing football with him (as it's his right to be uncomfortable), he has the right to say so.
Who the hell are you (or the NFL) to say he doesn't have that right, or that he should be forced to accept homosexuality just so he can play pro?
Pathetic,isn’t it? The moment I heard what the guy had said, I knew it would be a matter of days before he disavowed his opinion and groveled for forgiveness from the anally-fixated deviants.

He has the right to be uncomfortable, but his employer has the right to object and issue reprimands if their employee makes a statement they find distasteful while their employee is representing the company.

History has shown where this kind of militant intolerance goes and we will end up regretting going there very very much.

I never did say that I thought his statement was distasteful. I said that the NFL and the 49’s thought that the statement was distasteful.
And as long as the 49’s are writing his paycheck, they can have expectations as to what their employees say to the media while on company time.
And so I ask again: Why are you defending them? Are you a homosexual?

It is also a hoot comparing Culliver’s anti-gay comments and his subsequent apology.
“I don’t do the gay guys man,” said Culliver.
“I don’t do that. No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do.
“Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can’t be…in the locker room man. Nah.”
And then his apology:
“The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel,”
Amazing how he suddenly learned to speak English in his apology the day after.
Ramblings in your head are OK. What really counts is how you FEEL.

Many NFL and college football players are not all that intelligent and Culliver’s use of English language in his statement shows that he is illiterate.
Never for a moment think that an athlete who went to college on an athletic scholarship is college educated. When I was in school, I worked for the athletic department as a tutor and also shadowed a few football players around campus.
There were players who could not read, some were confused by letters and numbers and thus could not pass a multiple choice test even when they had the answer key.
My five year old daughter has greater math, reading and deductive reasoning skills than some of the athletes I tutored.
I am defending the NFL’s right to set employee policies.
From time to time in my own job I make statements to the press or answer their questions, and at no time have I ever, or would I ever make a statement that was not in my client’s or firm’s best interest.
Unfortunately, Culliver appears to be illiterate and has no grasp of the language or the expectations of the people who sign his paychecks.

This "policy" to force someone to surrender their personal beliefs at the altar of political correctness in order to play professional football is 100% pure unadulterated BS.
There is nothing about it that is worthy of defending. Absolutely nothing.

Of course. But look at his choices: Tolerate homosexuality or never play professional football again.
What would you choose?

Chris Culliver has the option to quit his current job and find employment in some other profession that he is qualified.
The NFL has the right to set standards for their employees and everyone at some point must alter their personal beliefs in the course of their employment.
