1944 WWII 440 steel penny ....and a 1873 penny featuring an Indian head instead of Abraham Lincoln. Both pennies are worth enough money to pay for the project, but they also ended up on the floor.

And they wanted to be "green"

Hate to think how they vote......

Imagine combining the design with some heating coils. That would be yummy on a winter morning.

The floor looks very beautiful. I wonder if it will hold up under normal use or if the grout used will break up.

Spending months gluing coinage to the floor is “going green” exactly how?

I’ve read about people covering their floors with torn brown paper bags and then putting a protective coating on it. Those pennies are going to be bumpy and hard to clean.

When my dad passed away in 1976 he had a box of 1973 s pennies. I mean rolls and rolls of them mostly uncirculated. I looked them up in the new blue book and they don’t seem to be anything exciting there. Anyone know what’s up with them , why my dad thought they were worth holding on too???

I hope he did his homework before embarking on his project.
If some .gov type takes exception to the artist then it is a Federal crime to deface currency

Could you pave your floor with 25¢ pieces and call it your living quarters?

An estimated 59,670 pennies were used to completely cover the floor, which was then sanded down to a shiny copper sheen and cemented in with a clear coat as smooth as a sheet of glass. They spent close to $1,000 on the project,

$596.70, I presume!

which made for a lot of trips back and forth to the bank for more pennies. And created more than a few odd glances from the tellers.

Pfft. They couldn't just get another pickle jarful out of the closet?

Penny related, but sorta, kinda off topic.

If you cut your own garden flowers (or buy a bouquet at the grocery store) throw a couple SHINY pennies in the vase. That tiny bit of copper will keep the water fresher than the pack of preservatives you get w/store bought flowers.
