Garrett McNamara, 45, claims he broke his previous world record by surfing a nearly 100-foot wave in Portugal earlier this week. A photo released Tuesday, Jan. 29 by the Nazare Qualifica organization shows McNamara riding a giant wave atop the Nazare Canyon, a 1,000-foot deep underwater canyon off the coast of Portugal

Still, pretty awesome, however high it was.
Awesome indeed...fearless and seemingly superglued to his board!
Good way to get yourself killed.
But, impressive just the same.
I’m... I’m... Shucks, I’m speechless!
Wow....that is insane...
How does he fit his @#&&s in his trunks?
At age 45, he’s certainly old enough to make the choice.
Saw him on tv and was kind of surprised he didn’t have “Red Bull” on his life vest or surfboard, LOL.
Wavejet won’t let him put stickers on his board...
I’ve never surfed and likely never will, but will always remember seeing “Endless Summer” for the first time back in the 60s.
I don’t think I took a breath during the whole video clip! WOW... thanks for posting, navysealdad!
Another few years older and that won't be a good enough reason, either.
That’s an old, old video, and it is not a 100 foot wave. I don’t think the video has anything to do with the story.
Are you in Calif?
I’ve often posted on FR that I went there in the early 70s (visiting from the midwest) and was blown away at how cool it was.
Unfortunately being 20 yrs ahead in the social order just means now that they’ve arrived at the socialist paradise - the rest of us are still on the way.
13% income tax plus #1 in gun control per the Brady bunch.
Just about done with reading a book entitled “The Wave” (or something like that). Interesting read that starts off with rouge waves sinking ships, the science to try to predict them, and lots of surfing stories as the writer befriends and follows the big wave surfers like Hamilton.
A really good book IMHO.

Its tough enough to make a living on the competitive circuit, let alone be 45 yrs old and still try to attract attract sponsors. Gotta hand it to him, he's making a decent living.
This surfer had something to say about it!

His answer was so good it was turned into a song.
