Word For The Day, Monday, 1/28/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
sub rosa; nounc
confidentially; secretly; privately.
Etymology: 192025; < Latin sub rosā literally, under the rose, from the ancient use of the rose at meetings as a symbol of the sworn confidence of the participants
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
A++++ for musical hw
And amazingly written before anyone knew of Rosannes Barr or O’Donnel.
Watched “The Hunger Games” over the weekend. A little slow to get going and a bit predictable, but a good movie.
Warm and drizzly here-
I’ve liked that word since I read about the symbolism in a favorite book-
Obama’s minions channel Nixon’s,
But their clumsy sub rosa schemes
Lack the polish and subtlety of
Tricky Dick in his random dreams
He always played his cards close
In every public word and speech
And imposed banishment on those
Who dared to blab or over reach
Obama can’t leash up his capos
They air every private thought-
With little loyalty, any “secret”
Can always be traded or bought
The word “amateur” comes to mind...
One of the rare days I get to brag about Houston weather.... it was mid 70’s Saturday and we ate at a Mexican joint with windows open it felt fabulous
LMAO-It just had to be that dumb...
I saw yesterday that Silly Jackson Lee is rated one of the worst people in DC to work for-everything from throwing objects at staff to chasing them down the halls as she screams “you can’t escape”. Where is the EEOC when they are needed? I would have no qualms about suing her crazy, fat ass for acting out like that...
I am pricing airline tickets to visit you! LOL It is COLD up here in the frozen tundra of libland.
Amazingly, even some people in (gasp!) Vermont are apparently pissed-I think I can hear the mountains of Africa falling into the sea...
The freezing rain happened over night. Most schools had 2 hour delay today. It was 34 when I left for work this morning. Raining like heck right now.
I’m heading down there for a job this weekend.
A+++ we need as many as we can get!
It is so transparent!! A+++
My brother told my SIL not to watch the Houston news bc it’d drive her nurs LOL!
A+++ I’d never heard of him, nice song!
Are you familiar with the Polish Prince, from Canonsburg, PA?
A+++ quite a rosy sub it is too!
So sad.
My Melody of Love. Had it on 45.
Had you read it?
