Two very different police recruitment videos:
Decatur, Georgia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIgt8pmh7CU
Newport Beach, California: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_rKA6ROAVk
Where would you rather live: in a place which polices like Decatur, or a place which polices like Newport Beach?
Remember: anything you justify being used against criminals/terrorists, etc. can be used against you.
Think of this: when is the last time any local paper reported: “Police take out [insert name of gang]”
When was the last time you heard of a police officer raiding a “wrong house” or shooting a law-abiding citizen or his/her dog?
Consider how far more often the latter is reported than the former.
If a video is designed for metrosexuals and women, then it follows that “real, conservative men” have no to little interest in being treated as esteemed citizens by the police; moreover, it follows that “conservatives” do not believe that the police are answerable to them, and that only women and metrosexuals care about such things.
I submit that such an argument displays a low view of conservative men.
If a video is designed for “men”, then it follows that “men” support and approve of a self-described “highly progressive Police Department.”
Clearly, we have entirely different understandings on what it is to be conservative.
Ok, I wasn’t aware this was a test of the definition of a conservative vs. what...a fascist? My comment was primarily sarcasm, I guess I left out the “sic” after my comment. I thought the comment of retreating back to my man cave may have been a hint. The Newport Beach video was obviously shallow; one sided and almost the approach of a high school football team recruitment video, although I’d rather have fit, well trained policemen on a force than a lot of what I see regularly. As for the Decatur video, more balanced, more citizen friendly, sending a different message, but....police personnel are still agents of the state, regardless of how they are portrayed in a video. I guess living in a big city with family members who were cops creates a little more cynicism and quick reaction in commentary, if so I’m certainly guilty of that.
Not everyone responds with a serious comment every time on this website; a little levity can be refreshing. Next time I will assume logical argument exercises will be around the corner and prepare my responses accordingly.
I too have never understood how submitting to abuse and being treated as though i was a criminal simply for breathing is a Conservative value.
Thanks for the clarification.
Freegards,
Happy to oblige. Take care.
