Akenaten really screwed over Egypt. He was an intolerent despot who tried to break Egypt from her traditional gods and worship his Single sun god. He made Egypt weak and wrecked the nation—looting the treasury. A bit like what Obama is doing now. It took years for Egypt to recover.
