AR’s, Glocks, etc are fine weapons and I own them, but I’ve also considered a 357 levergun and corresponding revolver for SHTF duty.

I lean toward having a carbine in a pistol caliber and the matching caliber pistol. No fumbling around for ammo. On the other hand, I have about 7 different calibers running around the mansion.

Pistol-caliber lever-guns are quite useful. Usually hold more than 10 rounds and, with practice, are quite fast.
Miroku/Winchester model 92 or Marlin “cowboy” can be had in common pistol calibers. May or may not adapt to .38/357 length differences, though.

Mine are .45LC to match my Ruger Vaquero revolvers.

Add a decent .22 bolt gun, or a 10/22 if you want to splurge, and a basic Mossberg 500 12 ga, and you’d have a great lineup for very reasonable money.

Picked up a Rossi lever action carbine chambered for .38 Special/.357 Mags - sweet weapon. It was not feeding all .357 mags as cleanly as it should so I have a gunsmith looking it over to see if polishing things up help.
