COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — A popular Orange County gun show may shatter attendance records this weekend.
KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports The Crossroads of the West gun show is expected to draw massive crowds as lawmakers in Washington consider a proposed federal ban on assault weapons.
The event drew an estimated 18,000 attendees during its stop in Ontario earlier this month, marking the first local event since a shooting rampage that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut.
But organizers are expecting attendance at the two-day event at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa to reach as high as 20,000.
Security will be raised slightly for the anticipated turnout, with additional Orange County Sheriff’s deputies either on hand or on stand by for the event.
Bruce Orr, who works in Costa Mesa thinks he knows the reasons why record crowds might show up this time around..
“[It's] a question as to what kind of laws the government is gonna pass,” Orr said. “I think people are a little afraid they’re not gonna be able to easily pick up the kind of gun they want to have.”
Existing state and federal laws regarding sale and transfer of guns and ammunition – including use of valid ID and waiting periods – will be enforced at the show.
Mr. Orr has a real gift for understatement. Most people attending this show will be lucky to score some beef jerky.
I have bought and sold lots of stuff there great show and its right in my back yard
wasn’t it an off-duty cop that caused one of the accidental shootings at gun shows last weekend?
