This whole article is a crock. It's Obama time in the country. Happy days are here again.

This ingrate woman is unappreciative of the goodies sprinkled about by the man she voted for.

I know because the news tells me so.

Hard times? Right.

Not according to CNN. It's all good.

This whole article is a crock.

I know you may just be sarcastic, but I wouldn't bet on it.

A couple of years ago, we had a scandal which broke open in this Commonwealth bigger than the Jerry Sandusky/Penn State scandal, but which garnered nowhere near the same publicity.

A well-connected Democrat contractor in Scranton (home of our homegrown fool senior senator Bob Casey, Jr. and a cesspool of Democrat corruption like a mini-Philadelphia) was building juvenile detention facilities which seemed to be far in excess of local needs.

Now, I know something about these facilities, because my daughter was a counselor in one in our area. The help gets paid a pittance, about $13 to $14 per hour, but the facilities can charge the prison industry (meaning us sucker taxpayers) up to $350 per day per detainee. Your typical counselor (guard) has responsibility for 16-20 detainees in the lockup. So one day's income from 1.3 detainees roughly pays for the counselor (guards) salary and bennies.

The rest produce income to pay the overhead and the management, or 14.7 x $350 = $5,145 for every counselor (guard).

Keeping these facilities filled is very lucrative for those higher up on the food chain than the counselors (guards).

Long story short is that the well-connected contractor knew he was overbuilding but he wasn't worried because he had an ace in the hole-- a couple of friendly (Democrat) judges in juvenile court who kept his facilities filled by sending kids to juve lockup for the most petty of offenses ranging from skipping school to basic fighting (hair-pulling, fists flying not knives or guns) to shoplifting a pack of smokes.

It took years and relentless pursuit by a Republican Attorney General (now our governor) before the scandal was finally blown open and people went to prison, not to mention how many kid's lives were ruined.

These collection agencies are much the same thing on a somewhat lesser scale. How much do you want to bet that those who get the most government contracts to milk the debtors are also those who have the best political connections?
