As President Barack Obama was sworn in ceremonially for a second term Monday, the early primary state of South Carolina hosted a man who may vie to succeed him.
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is the Inauguration Day guest at the Charleston Meeting, a South Carolina-based conservative power event hosted by businessman Mallory Factor.
The event is an offshoot of the Monday Meeting, a regular conservative gathering Factor helped launch in New York.
A top Paul adviser confirmed his attendance at the meeting. The first-term Republican will also speak to the media this afternoon.
Factor was among those who traveled with Paul to Israel on his recent trip.
Paul is the featured speaker at the Charleston Meeting, along with National Rifle Association President David Keene. Paul recently defended the NRA against criticism from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie over a Web video invoking President Barack Obamas children.

Now that we have an open Pres Election again I think Rand would be a good choice.
Rand Paul scares the hell out of the left right now!!!!
Expect some attacks on Rand inth next 6-12 months as they work to de-ligitimize him as a possible presidential contender in 2016.
They will also look to put Chris Christie on a pedistal as their “fall guy” for 2016. Of course after the RNC convention in 2016 should Krispy Kreme be picked they will of course betray him.
it’s funny when he gets a mention on Huffpooh there are thousands and thousands of comments.
They hate and fear him for a reason.

He is the best hope of saving the republic in terms of a Republican Candidate for President. I fear he will be intentionally damaged goods by the left in the whole media narritive by the time 2016 rolls around...
I don’t blame him. Classless morons booed Paul Ryan at the ceremony. I’d like to see a list of Republicans who didn’t show up. Paul Ryan is a good and decent man. The 0bama minions are anything but.
These people fear no one. Why should they? They are drunk on power, partying hard today, feeling their liquor, riding high.
Dividing Republicans and conservatives against themselves has proven to conquer all their opposition, and they enjoy the game.
Put up a name, ANY name, and they watch us take the bait and squabble endlessly among ourselves until WE destroy the name they throw out there.
Today it is Rand Paul. Tomorrow, it will be a different conservative, until we put up a socialist Republican, again. Then, they beat him with a Marxist.
We need to wise up, bring ourselves together and get organized to overcome our own disunity.
Who says we'll have an open election in 2016? Who says we'll have a presidential election in 2015 at all?
SC sounds good to me! I’d rather be as far away from DC as possible too. This whole day just makes me sick.
I think that’s silly, as bad as Obama is he’s out in 2016 and will be a lame duck in less than 18 months. so don’t worry, get organized... “LIKE” Rand Paul on facebook.com/RandPaul2010
Now there is a guy with conviction.

THANK YOU!! On another thread, I was pummelled when I stood up for Paul Ryan. He IS a decent man. I am sick of the GOP going after itself. Eating your own never works. The left never ever does this. Can’t we learn anything?
You really think they won’t be able to manufacture something big enough to keep Obama in office until he dies?
no they won’t. he’s gone in 2016, term limited.
Plenty here who hate him because they hated his dad. I don’t.
Good for Rand Paul.
For sure there won’t be a Presidental election in 2015.
Considering the last 4 years, do you really think Obama cares about the Constitution?
