““I’m afraid running on social issues is weak at best and a loser at worst””

I want anyone on this thread to explain to me two things.

1: How that is reconcilable with ‘conservatism”
2: How implementation of it is not closer to leftism than conservative thought.

It is the very essence of why we are fractured. It is 50 shades of wrong.

Hello Mitt Romney! Glad to have you on Free Republic!

Thank you! I'm just sitting on the yacht here at Key West with the missus listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on my CD player. B-)

I know it depresses me to at times, but this is not 1955 anymore, sometimes viewpoints change in society, we need to pick key battles where we can win and take it from there. We need to find the issues that we can win on and work on the others form there. Also, when it comes to many things socially, it is not the government's arena to really dictate how we live, we need to look to ourselves and religious bodies for that. We need to return to a more Goldwater style conservatism where government is out of our lives as much as possible.

I don't really think in retrospect, Romney was not all that bad, he had potential. His problem was that he did not attack Bammy with the will to win, the "Eye of the Tiger" so to speak. I think if he came out after him on Bengazi, I think things might have worked our way much better.
