Home Defense - Get a shotgun.
Survival - Get a 22.

Dude has good form in that photo! Gun is nice and level, knees bent in the ready position, BUT, his taunting is lacking. His mouth isn’t even open.

The problem with the SKS is that is has a ten-round clip that cannot be detached.

It can. Here's a video on how to do it.

I bought one that had already been adapted to accept a 20-round detachable AK-style metal magazine, and the guy I bought it from got it that way from a dealer in the early 90s.

I bought the Tapco SKS 922r compliance kit, just to be certain I was okay with the loony laws surrounding these imported semi-autos.

That kit had a detachable 20-round magazine, too.

Can I buy out of state without a permit if I am a Jersey resident? I am told it may take 3 months to get cleared.

Permit to purchase is a requirement if you bring the weapon back to New Jersey. Liberal counties tend to drag their feet on applications, unless of course you are RAT connected. Though a "may issue" state, carry permits are nearly impossible to obtain.

What part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED do they fail to understand??? < /rhetorical question >

What do you think about Ruger LC9 vs the LCP or even the LCR? I have looked at the LCR and like it but was really thinking I should go with a semi-auto. Your post is making be think going with the LCR is okay. This would be for CC and home defense. I travel long distances alone and am on remote jobsite often and would like protection. Also want amo that is reasonably priced for practice. Any thoughts?

A word of friendly advice...those days are long gone, there is no such thing as a “safe neighborhood” any longer.

Especially when you local Gannett newsrag is likely to "out" you as a gun owner, or by default until you are statist-approved as a non-owner.

“It’s just a complex issue and I think that we both raised some awareness that a gun is not a miracle cure to a uncomfortable situations.”

Agreed.

“She should understand all the issues.”

Agreed, not to imply that I disagree with the rest of your post.

MissH,

I appreciate that you trusted me enough to ask me, however I am not familiar with any of the Ruger pistols. I did look up some reviews. I think the links below may help you decide. The first link has 43 reviews of the LC9, and the second link is regarding the LCR.

Like I said in my orginial post, I was looking for a pistol that my wife would not be intimidated by and would not have a problem loading or firing. We are also concerned about recoil. The gun dealer friend I spoke with highly recommended the Taurus .38 special. He said it was light weight, easy to fit in your hand, easy to load, no safety, just point and fire. He said it did have recoil (as all firearms do), but that with a little practice, it shouldn’t be a problem. I’m sure the Rugers are good weapons and are just as high quality. We went down to a local gun store and talked with a salesman, he let my wife hold several different ones. But, we went with the one my friend recommended and my wife felt comfortable with it as well.

We are not planning on using it for CC although I think it would fit in a purse fairly easily. The LC9 looks smaller than the Taurus 38 we bought so the LC9 might work better for you as a CC. Hope this helps.

I also included a link to the Taurus .38 special:

Personally I think NO husband should teach his wife. There’s just something there...that well...doesn’t work.

Have to agree with you on that one.

I had a 20 guage over/under Baretta. I was fine with it at the time.

Honestly I’ve been surprised at the number of people saying I need a shotgun for home defense - but I am taking the advice seriously.

I have made contact with a professional trainer close to me and he teaches a class for women which I want to join. I found him by contacting the local IDPA - as recommended to me by a freeper. I plan to stay in practice also.

I think I’ll end up with 2 guns - a shotgun and some sort of revolver. That way I am covered - as well as I can be.

Afraid the climate in this country will just get worse in the coming years and I don’t want to have to be a sitting duck if I can help it.

I appreciate your advice - since I knew next to nothing when I made my post last night - your information, as well as all the comments from Freepers, is extremely helpful! I’m very grateful for all the great advice!

Thank you so much for your reply! I have looked at all the links - thank you for your help. I did put an LC9 on hold for purchase tomorrow - still not sure if I should do that or a LCR 22 revolver so I am going to go to the store and feel them both out. I will take a look at the Taurus as well if they have one! THanks again -
