Short answer: because the left instructs their followers to hate Beck.
Whatever the media/Dems say are parroted by their followers in a lockstep manner.
To elaborate into a longer answer, Beck was much more visible to the left because he was on cable tv and on Fox in particular. Additionally, many were introduced to him when he was on TV, so he is a known entity. Rush is only visible to the left if they chose to tune into AM radio (which few do). Their exposure to Rush is quote and soundbites. Also, I think Beck was a major driving force between Jan 09 and November 2010 when we shifted public opinion to our side almost completely. He is an activist, in addition to an on-air personality, and had a visible hand in the tea party movement.
While the left quickly organizes to defeat their enemies, the right are still quibbling about the details and don't even have their boots on.
