A heavyset woman caved through an Upper East Side sidewalk last night dropping six feet into a huge hole where she was eventually pulled out by emergency crews using a crane-like rescue unit, authorities said.
The 31-year-old Queens woman was huddled up against the wall of Atomic Wings at the Blue Room Grill on the corner of East 60th Street and Second Avenue, seeking shelter from the rain while waiting for a bus, when the sidewalk below her gave way around 9:15 p.m., witnesses said.
The woman was enormous. She had to be more than 300 pounds, said Daniel Crumity, 44, of Queens, who watched in disbelief from a window inside the Blue Room. The ground literally fell out from underneath her.

A tough way to learn it’s time to go on a diet.
I was always leery of those store sidewalk elevator panels - I’m not fat, but some of them look pretty rickety.
Geez that was cruel.
But funny!
Oh, Upper East Side....
Yooze, deeze, does..
The need to outlaw fat people has never been greater !
She turned the Upper into Lower.
The recent crane collapes, was that being used to extract her ?..Kind of all making alittle more sense now.
Bloomberg will deny her pain meds.
Now Bloomberg can claim his ban on fats and sodas is to save the infrastructure.
Be great if the same thing happened to Washington DC and every politician in it.
He should deny her EBT card !
I always used to walk around those sidewalk grills and elevator lids when I was in NYC. If one of them gave way, your family could sue the owners—like you read about all the time in the papers—but that would be small comfort if you were dead.
I believe that she is facing 5 - 10 years in prison for the 32oz soda she was carrying at the time.
It doesn't matter how heavy she is. People should be able to count on the ground in a public area if there is no posted warning or obvious hazard. She will have an excellent legal case.
Reminds me of the “yo mamas so fat” jokes
Talk about yer shovel-ready jobs !
Something needs to be done to stop sidewalk violence!
At what point does “heavyset” become “obese?”
