Young men giving up on marriage: ‘Women aren’t women anymore’

Fewer young men in the US want to get married than ever, while the desire for marriage is rising among young women, according to the Pew Research Center.

Pew recently found that the number of women 18-34 saying that having a successful marriage is one of the most important things rose from 28 percent to 37 percent since 1997. The number of young adult men saying the same thing dropped from 35 percent to 29 percent in the same time.

Pew’s findings have caught the attention of one US writer who maintains that feminism, deeply entrenched in every segment of the culture, has created an environment in which young men find it more beneficial to simply opt out of couple-dom entirely.

Suzanne Venker’s article, “The War on Men,” which appeared on the website of Fox News in late November, has become a lodestone for feminist writers who have attacked her position that the institution of marriage is threatened, not enhanced, by the supposed gains of the feminist movement over the last 50 years.

“Where have all the good (meaning marriageable) men gone?” is a question much talked about lately in the secular media, Venker says, but her answer, backed up by statistics, is not to the liking of mainstream commentators influenced by feminism.

She points out that for the first time in US history, the number of women in the workforce has surpassed the number of men, while more women than men are acquiring university degrees.

“The problem? This new phenomenon has changed the dance between men and women,” Venker wrote. With feminism pushing them out of their traditional role of breadwinner, protector and provider – and divorce laws increasingly creating a dangerously precarious financial prospect for the men cut loose from marriage – men are simply no longer finding

"MISOGNY"

There is no such word. Before you start accusing others of playing with "semantics", I suggest you play a little with the English language at the 5th grade level.

There is a disturbing similiarity between those who claim to be conservatives on this site and the Islamic religion in the blaming of women for damn near everything.

The subject of the thread is.... Young men giving up on marriage: ‘Women aren’t women anymore’.

No one is blaming ‘All” women “for everything”, but some of us, including this one, are blaming some of 'them' for the breakdown of the family, as well as the current crop of young men lacking interest in starting new families.

Not because they are female, but because they are leaches, moochers, liberals, cheats, etc.

Too many men have lost their children. Too many families on the Father's side have lost their grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Fool them once, shame on you.

I blame both slackers and militant feminists. You talk about men not needing women. If a woman is not a militant feminist, men will pursue her more. And if a man is not a slacker, women will pursue him.

Why is the transmission in the bathtub?

That's easy! It's because the rear end is in the guest bedroom and the engine's in the living room next to the Harley!

Duh!

sounds like you’re just mad that men are rejecting women’s life’s goal (marriage). maybe women should start making resume’s to prove their worth if they don’t want to be alone. now that men can get sex easy (liberation movement), there’s really no benefit for us to commit. only the beta males, with no options, do that

Very liberal minded of you. Are you sure you’re posting on the right forum? This one caters to conservatives, not libtards.

From the review of book titled "Love in the Time of Algorithms" about Internet dating and such in today's WSJ (Damn, I hate online newspapers! You can't find anything in them that you can look up easily in paper editions by turning a page.) (I hope that Fed prosecutor Carmen Ortiz ("wize latina") doesn't come after me now for violating the Affordable Copyright Act, now that her last criminal Mr Swartz has checked out and she's looking for a suitable target)

There is also much worse. The low point in Mr. Slater's research is a trip he makes to Colombia with a group of American men, members of a dating site called Amo Latina. For $1,595 a head, the men travel to Medellín, attend two "socials" where there are 20 women for each man, and have the services of concierges and translators to help them with their dates. Each man hopes to choose one mate at the end of the trip.

The men who go on this trip are profoundly embittered. "American women took me to the cleaners," a 52-year-old window installer from Florida tells Mr. Slater. A 56-year-old doctor from California says: "Women in the States are confused. They don't know if they want to be the man or the woman. I sure as hell don't want to be the woman." A 30-year-old nurse from Michigan says: "I can't find a woman at home. Yet thanks to the Internet I can develop a reputation as a player in a foreign city where I don't speak the language." We see these men by turns despising and fawning over the Colombian women. One minute they are the swaggering gringos flaunting their American-sized wallets, the next flailing to make a date in a foreign language. They talk of love, but the word feels bullet-ridden by their cynicism.
