Word For The Day, Thursday, January 10, 2013 – pseudology
dictionaries ad nauseam | 10 January 2013 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

pseudology \soo-DOL-uh-jee\ , noun
The art of lying.

Example sentences:
For example, listening to the life history account of András Albert, a Transylvanian lumberman, the outsider may wonder how to distinguish fact from fiction, poetry from lie, and how to regard the relationship between pseudology and storytelling.
-- Linda Dégh, Narratives in Society

So many people would love to get their hands on a machine that can inhibit pseudology, mendacity and falsehood. The police, Intelligence services, all sorts and conditions of interested agencies and institutions.
-- Stephen Fry, The Liar

Etymology:
Pseudology comes from two Greek roots, pseudo- meaning "false" and –logy meaning "study of." The word does not literally mean "the study of lying" but has come to embody the sense of "the art of lying."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

The current bastard-in-chief is a PhD in Pseudology ... he lies as easily as he breathes. With the demonic help he has, it is too much to hope he will choke on his lies.

I wonder if anyone has done a study on how closely magic thinking is connected to Pseudology ... as in the democrat voter vermin have their magic thinking priocked by the practiced liar-in-chief!

It is 50 and sunny, ahead of the next rainmaker, due over the weekend-it was foggy and very, very quiet in the woods this morning...

Hillary says she’ll talk about
Benghazi in just a week or two-
How fortunate-plenty of time
For her to know just what to do

For the prince of pseudology
To coach her on a perfect sale
The way he muddied the waters
With his own scandalous “tail”

Though she aided and lied for Bill
And he’ll return the favor now,
If Obama wants her under the bus
She’ll be the newest sacred cow...

Hmm, seems insulting to cows. I saw 18 deer yesterday at the park, scattered in different areas, including a group of 3 large bucks. Since it was rainy and overcast, they were on a different schedule. There were only 2 other people out. A+ for you.

Thank you!

Don’t you just love the solitude with only the animals for company? I’m nearly always alone on the trails except in fine weather in early Spring and Fall-even then I seldom run into more than one other hiker, because the trails are rough and not marked. No one who doesn’t live here ventures from the “civilized” areas in the park, and that is how I like it.

Me too. No headphones, just looking to see what kind of animal made that sound.

Speaking of animals, two people were shot at a Kern County HS in CA just now.

I heard that as soon as I got home from getting a few things and turned on news-sounds like it was a grudge shooting. And I heard that some teacher managed to “talk” the shooter out of further violence? Was he given cookies and milk and a phone call to his attorney, too? Only in California...

I love to listen to animal sounds-I especially like watching and listening to a pair of red-shouldered hawks that hunt that part of the woods-they also nest on the cliff below my deck.

The only animal sounds I do not even want to hear are the ones made by the feral hogs and the resident mountain lion.

A couple of times, I’ve heard the kitty’s quiet panting and snarling from the cover of the wooded hill across the road and only about 100 feet from my fence, late at night when taking the dog out. I don’t know whose hair stood on end first, mine or the dog’s, but I grabbed her muzzle so she wouldn’t growl, and hauled her and myself back indoors post haste. There is a reason feral cats and dogs don’t last long out here...

I like looking for owls when I hear them. They only call during the day if it’s very overcast. And the answer to what kind of animal made that weird noise is 9 times out of 10 a squirrel.

Owls are all over the place here starting just at dusk, too. There is one Horned Owl who uses the chimmey , when there is no fire-as a vantage point to broadcast his come-hither call to his mate for the past few years-he should be starting up in about 4-5 weeks. He hoots, and it echoes down the chimney as he waits for her to answer.

Eventually, his mate gets closer and closer till she’s on the chimney cap too, and they have a renunion that you can hear all over the house-even the pets stare at the fireplace while it is going on.
