I had 5 dozen cloth diapers for 4 kids in 5 years. I daren’t think about how many diapers that I’ve washed and folded. I actually shed a tear when the last diaper went into the rag bag. I think that happened when the youngest was about 6. Those multi-washed diapers made wonderful rags for polishing shoes, polishing furniture, and other household tasks.
One thing that I’ve noticed with my grandchildren is that they don’t become toilet trained as easily as my own kids did. I blame the disposable diapers that the GKs wear. They feel dry to them, even when they are wet, so it’s harder to catch them “in the act”. But, the advantage is that I think that diaper rash is almost a thing of the past.
The reason I wanted “real” diapers was because I didn’t want my little angels to have diaper rash and they never did. Maybe I was just neurotic and changed them too often? Who knows, but I wouldn’t go back and change that if I could. (Still waiting on the grands). You’re right about the rags .. there really is nothing better!
