By family were lumberjacks in the north east. My grandfather used to use Coke (the soda wise guy ;) on the split rims of his log trucks to bust the rust for a tire change.
You could beat those things with a sledge hammer for 10 min and not budge them. Rust had them locked together solid. But pour a bottle of coke around the lockring, wait 5 min and they would pop first hit.
Coke...the universal solvent.

Worked like a champ. I had food poisoning last week and first thing I told the wife was to go out and get me a bottle of coke.
It also works great on a ham. Pour it all over the ham, inject some into th ham and while baking, baste the ham with the coke.
My aunt, all 100 pounds of her, drank either coffee or Coca Cola constantly, smoked, ate chocolate by the pound and died peacefully in her sleep at 85 years old.
