I do not own guns because I am free, I am free because I own guns.

Try Google. Molon Lave means

Oh great, now I have to learn greek, imporve brain damage, increase comprehension, deal with dyslexia and what will come along next. If I did not want to upset some neighbors I would set up a target outside and clear my head each morning.

I don’t understand this love affair with Molon Lave.

Spartans held Thermopylae for three days, they were ultimately annihilated.

Great post Taxman.

Your post inspired me to read further.
I found an website where some one posts 76 reasons to own a gun. There’s probably even more.

I hope you won’t mind me sharing that link.

I like the picture. I hate long articles. A picture can explain in a glance. But the first sentence must not be the title of the article “Top Two Reasons to Own a Gun: Thank God and Sam Colt …” seems a bit misplaced. the top two reasons to own a gun are to “shoot a bastard” and to “shoot a tyrant,” or at least to have the capacity. This guy has two divergent two top reasons to own a gun. The picture does a much better job of getting an idea across.

Anywhere I might find a larger version of that picture? It really describes the left perfectly.

“Guns are meant to kill. Amen! They’re a tool made for killing.”

Not necessarily. A skeet gun is not designed to kill, although it can. A target rifle or pistol is not designed to kill, although it can.

The philosophy behind the design of some military rifles and their cartridges was that they should wound rather than kill because killing an opponent took just one out of combat while wounding him took three or more out due to the number of people required to care for the wounded one.

My personal defense weapons are designed for defense. They can kill, but that is incidental to the defense effort. Here in Ohio (last I heard) we aren’t even allowed to shoot to kill. We’re only allowed to shoot to stop. Any “killing” is a side effect of the “stopping”.

That guns are only for killing is gun control propaganda that too many of us fall for.

***And weren’t all those donated American private guns destroyed by the British government rather than being issued?***

After Dunkurk, the American guns were issued as there were not enough rifles in England to stop the Nazis.

After the war, some historic guns were given to museums, others were sent back to their American owners (if they knew the address of the owner). The rest were dumped into the sea.

If it had not been for the American guns the Brits would have met a nazi onslaught with those traditional English peasant weapons, the hay rake and the pitch fork.

Just admit it: you either misunderstood or you didn't read far enough.

No great shame in either.

Obviously stated in the opening paragraph:
"In this case, the top two reasons to own a gun are to “shoot a bastard” and to “shoot a tyrant,” or at least to have the capacity."

Yesterday I watched Charles Kuralt’s “The Revoutionary War” (1994) on the Military Channel (5-6 hrs). Does everyone realize how tenuous our hold on victory was? How uncertain the outcome of that war was? The Brits had most of the soldiers, most of the training, most of the arms, most of the powder, most of the bullets, most of the food and comforts and won most of the battles. But the Patriots won the campaign and the war.

Not only must we prevent the government from ever taking our guns, we must train to use them. And that goes for people like me who have (until now) been content to have others (husband, police, army) protect us. We all need to be prepared.

“I hate long articles”

Suggestion:
Start reading “Unintended Consequences”.

John Ross explains it better.

So you are saying that the first sentence in the article has absolutely nothing to do with the article?

Top Two Reasons to Own a Gun: Thank God and Sam Colt …

No, they were issued and used during the war by the Home Guard.

After the war, nearly all were destroyed rather than returned by dumping them in the deep. A few examples were returned because the donator had the presence of mind to mark their address and name on the gun and demand that they be returned after the war.

To Kill a Tyrant:
^^^^^^^^^^^^

Because of the Second Amendment we are not slaves today.

On a back shelf in the mind of every politician since the beginning of our nation sits the Second Amendment.

I am convinced that we are free today because of the Second Amendment. Without this protection the Marxists would have made their move to tyranny in the 1920s and 30s. Before them, some other wan’nabe tyrant would have.

No great shame in either.

The start was confusing to me the first sentence is “Top Two Reasons to Own a Gun: Thank God and Sam Colt …” which the first paragraph says absolutely nothing about. Then there is the is “MOLON LABE! “ which I thought might have something to do with surrender. The Picture cleared that up quickly. I had some more coffee and kinda see the structure of the article but it starts out quite contorted. I don't disagree with him but he is long winded and the start was hard to follow.

The idea that you have to be a part of a "militia group" or a religious "group" to have these rights is false.

If we read the Militia Act of 1792 we will have a better understanding what is meant by militia.

I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, That each and every free able-bodied white male citizen of the respective States, resident therein, who is or shall be of age of eighteen years, and under the age of forty-five years (except as is herein after excepted) shall severally and respectively be enrolled in the militia, by the Captain or Commanding Officer of the company, within whose bounds such citizen shall reside, and that within twelve months after the passing of this Act. And it shall at all time hereafter be the duty of every such Captain or Commanding Officer of a company, to enroll every such citizen as aforesaid, and also those who shall, from time to time, arrive at the age of 18 years, or being at the age of 18 years, and under the age of 45 years (except as before excepted) shall come to reside within his bounds; and shall without delay notify such citizen of the said enrollment, by the proper non-commissioned Officer of the company, by whom such notice may be proved. That every citizen, so enrolled and notified, shall, within six months thereafter, provide himself with a good musket or firelock, a sufficient bayonet and belt, two spare flints, and a knapsack, a pouch, with a box therein, to contain not less than twenty four cartridges, suited to the bore of his musket or firelock, each cartridge to contain a proper quantity of powder and ball; or with a good rifle, knapsack, shot-pouch, and powder-horn, twenty balls suited to the bore of his rifle, and a quarter of a pound of powder; and shall appear so armed, accoutred and provided, when called out to exercise or into service, except, that when called out on company days to exercise only, he may appear without a knapsack. That the commissioned Officers shall severally be armed with a sword or hanger, and espontoon; and that from and after five years from the passing of this Act, all muskets from arming the militia as is herein required, shall be of bores sufficient for balls of the eighteenth part of a pound; and every citizen so enrolled, and providing himself with the arms, ammunition and accoutrements, required as aforesaid, shall hold the same exempted from all suits, distresses, executions or sales, for debt or for the payment of taxes.

We need to be careful that we do not minimize the meaning of "militia" from a historical perspective as in itself provides certain rights and a broader meaning to the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment has be affirmed by the Supreme Court as being an individual right, but it is also a collective right. Imagine calling forth the Militia today to enforce our nation's laws, whether it be to enforce drug laws, stomp out crime in our cities or ousting illegal aliens. It would mean that all white, free men, 18 to 45 of a particular state or states be mustarded. I believe that if this practice did not go away years ago that we would have a much more civil society and there would be zero gun control laws. This would be independent of having a standing Army and Navy, but not mutually exclusive.

...if tyranny comes to our doorstep it is most likely to come in uniform...

True, but tyranny's advance team is the crew that has already added over 5500 new regulations this year. (As reported on Forbes on Fox this morning.) Most of which have been sitting, waiting for release, since well before the election coup.
