44 Magnum, because theres no point in having a tidy house with no large splatters of blood on the upholstery and rugs, if youre not alive to enjoy it. There comes a point of diminishing returns, when recovering from recoil means that a smaller caliber (.45 or 9mm) a better choice. That, or keeping a shotgun handy.

Keltec PMR 30, .22 magnum. No recoil, loud as heck and holds 30 rounds. Any attacker will give up after getting hit with the first 20 rounds.

Shotguns are good. 16 gauge has a lot of stopping power, though not as much as a 12 or a monster 8.
