Agreed. There is another metric to the game however. Caveat, I had no interest in who won that game. The rules have become a deterrent and allows for the “changing” of a game based on dubious calls. I watch football for the “entertainment” as you have said when I have nothing else to do.
I am a true baseball fan however. Baseball, outside of an inconsistent strike zone or the occasional blown call all things are even and based on player production. The game is played without much interference and critical penalties being called (yes I know there are exceptions but they are also very castigated when they happen).
Case and point two issues I have are the interference calls and helmet leads. I always see RB’s lowering their heads and hitting a defender’s helmet head on to make yards, but they never call it and by the letter of the rules it is illegal. Let a LB or DB lead with a helmet and the flag comes out. Another is the interference. You watch offensive receivers and they are always pushing off and using their hands but almost never get called whereas the DB’s always seem to get it when the O needs to extend a drive and in the last 2 minutes. At least do away with spot of foul, make it 15 yards and auto first. A 45 yard penalty is ridiculous and a game changer.
Just like the NBA (that I stopped watching over 20 years ago) instituting the 3 pointer, allowing traveling by the “stars” of the game, ignoring the boxing matches under the rim, it is all about running up the score to make the game appear more exciting. Also, raise the goal at least a foot then it will be a game.
A good football game is 17-14, 21-17, not 45-40. The skins and the Vikings showed yesterday that while a passing game can strike quick, a running game still controls the game (with a good defense). NFL is starting to look like 6 man football.
My favorite play of the season, was when the Chefs thought they had scored a touchdown, and then did "excessive celebrating in the end-zone," resulting in a penalty. But the best part of it was when the reply judges ruled that it wasn't a touchdown to begin with. So not only did the TD get called back, they still got hit with the penalty!

Just did, see Post #56. Can you tell I’m happy?
I can’t imagine any new GM will want to keep Ryan. He is the real reason the Jets suck.
It's like the Twins -- despite being among the best hitting teams in baseball, like, forever (Killebrew, Tovar, Carew, Oliva), they never won; so the Vikes, with some of the best receivers in the NFL over and over, never did more than rinky-dink 5- and 10-yard passes.
That's what makes Adrian Peterson so amazing: the Vikings winning with a running back? Maybe Tom Clancy's plot in The Sum of All Fears is more realistic than I thought. (The Vikes were in the Super Bowl due to a running back, when the nuke blew it up.)
Cheers!
Hmmmm, close competition to be sure. Dude, don’t spoil my day, I’m riding a high here!
Cheers!
+1
It’s a Christmas miracle!
The list so far thanks to Ingtar:
Simth out at Chicago
Crennel out in KC; GM may also be gone.
Reid gone in Philadelphia.
Ryan kept by the Jets; GM let go.
Shurmur and GM both out in Cleveland.
Jacksonville replacing GM and letting them decide on the coach.

I grew up a huge Cowboy fan. The first plane flight I ever took was to go see the Cowboys in the Cotton Bowl with Don Meredith, Don Perkins, Bob Lily. Good Times.
I dropped the Cowboys like a hot anvil when Jones bought them and fired Landry the way he did. I still cant stand to see his face. (Unfortunately, I immediately adopted the KC Chiefs just as Marty S. came to town)
And yes, the reason the Pokes are so average is because of bad ownership, namely him. Tom Landry to Jason Garrett?
Just happy my Skins and Ravens are still in it.
Oh no, the fans in St. Louis care deeply about the baseball Cardinals. We also very deeply care the the NFL Cardinals lose every single game.
Now if they can just ban the McCaskeys from football ownership and operations................
Agree. I’m still POed about losing the Honey Bears!
Ok....then continue rooting for the new Browns. I’m just saying that I don’t see what geography has to do with it.
The Ravens/old Browns are in Baltimore, Modell IS dead...same franchise, new city...get over it.
I’ve moved on from the Lions (Lie-downs); follow the Packers now. At a certain point (for me: 45 or so years of failure) one has to divorce a team, which is geographically close...but has become far from one’s heart.
For me it was time. Like a wife one no longer loves.
You feel (understandably) about Jones...the way I feel about Obama.
Can’t stand to see his face.
The Jets are a joke. Jet stadium will be empty next year when fans
vote with their wallet.
Gailey in Buffalo; GM still up in the air.
