You are given tests to preform in order to get out, GLaDOS lies to you and promises you Cake once you are done and that she is NOT trying to kill you like the other test subjects who left you clues on how to get out (and the fact that the cake was a lie)

Then you come a cross a "Companion Cube" just a box with hearts on it, but it serves as a Psychological Experiment that if you are TOLD an object is important will will safeguard it. After your tests with the Companion Cube GLaDOS forces you to through it in the furnace, again as a Psychological test and to screw with you. You then must Destroy GLaDOS and escape.

Portal 1 and 2 have a HUGE following on the internet and many memes have arisen from it.
