Maybe so- but Hollywood has enabled millions of kids to experience gory cold killings, sadism, brutality and sex of all kinds as entertainment for over 50 years now!
Its called “desensitization”. Every violent movie (and video and game and rap song) raises the bar for the next producer to find a new angle to shock viewers.
That IS a recent phenomenon. Murder as entertainment. Try to watch a network TV schedule with the family from 8-10 some evening and count the murders and perversions.

Murder has always been a form of acceptable public entertainment.
For most of history, it involved actual killing. Lynchings, gladiatorial combat, etc.
Thy just didn’t do it as much as we pretend to today.
Violence in ‘entertainment’ goes back to ancient Greece.
