From what I’ve read, apparently he was wearing real, bona-fide body armor. Well, a real bulletproof vest at least.

So did he intend to off himself? Was he perhaps anticipating that someone was maybe going to take a shot at him? Or was it all part of the whole “Look at me I’m such a badass” ensemble?

I’ve often speculated that the reason a lot of spree killers commit suicide after their spree is finished is that adrenalin winds down, and if you’ve ever been in situation where you’re adrenalin is way up, and then it crashes, you end up actually feeling seriously bummed out once the adrenalin rush goes away.

This scum apparently wore bullet proof armor because he wanted to make sure he did his slaughter before a bullet could bring him down.
My heart breaks for those children and their parents.
What a senseless tragedy.

There is also a very real spiritual element.

The initial idea might not have been his, but demonic influence. The initial tempting idea, isn't a sin, but the willful acceptance by his volition to accept that idea is sinful. His continuing to pursue his murder spree, upon its conclusion set himself up to then judge himself.

The Adversary is an accuser. The murderer sets himself up to then be accused. If he has a habit of judging others, then justifying is perception of their unrighteousness by murdering them, he then sets himself up when the idea arises of his own unrighteousness, to follow through with his own judgment to murder himself, thinking this will be a righteous act to justify himself.

It doesn't, because it is an arrogant thinking process placing himself before God and His Provision.

Even a murderer has an opportunity for salvation, by accepting what God has provided in Jesus Christ being judged for all sins on the Cross. This doesn't mean a murderer escapes the consequences of his criminal behavior within society, but that his eternal destiny isn't oblivion if he accepts what God has provided him. The murderer still is to be punished by capital punishment and swiftly executed, to protect the people from such criminality.
