Shakes me to the core. Well, at least Undercover Boss is on the up and up. It’s just coincidence that there is an unusual number of struggling dialysis patients, struggling single mothers, at least one mid-level boss needing immediate disciplining, etc. Just coincidences like the Food Stamp President being completely surrounded by radicals, muslims, criminals, communists, etc..... just coincidence.
I read that the show Dual Survival the guy with the military background in the first two seasons doesn't match his actual record. I laughed at the one where it looked like they were in Kentucky on the Cumberland River. There is no way you can't climb a ridge in this region and not find either an active or abandoned logging or mine road or from the top of a ridge you can see civilization. In most areas staying lost over a day you would have to really be trying LOL. Yea they have a lot of support. Ice Road Truckers is basic reality.
Irony... We had a job right near a set of units in Concord CA, and the week after we were out there a guy got a rubbermaid bin full of gold and silver ($500K+ worth) out of a unit after shelling ~$1000 for it.
The company that runs that show did the auctions, but they apparently didn’t think that facility was going to produce anything interesting...
Blows my mind that someone would put that type of stuff in a storage unit, I’d sooner bury it on my land, or in the sticks...
Yeah, they do. And I have been paid more than a few times to 'clean out gramma's house' too... Stem to stern, PAY ME to haul it away. They just don't want to deal with it. Do you have any idea how many valuable antiques and memorabilia (even down to little smalls) the average 'grandma's house' has within it's walls? You would be astounded at what people will throw away.

Stuff happens. I hope she received compensation but that might be difficult without proof of what was in the locker.

He won't be missed, that's for sure. He's a total blow-hard with a crappy attitude. Must be his business is doing bad, ergo the lawsuit.
On a more positive note, just saw an ad that Swamp People will be returning soon. Aiiiiyeeee!!

Years ago, before these shows were on TV my son bought a storage unit....he made enough to break even, he sells on ebay, but in going through the paper work he found someone left their ccw in with the paper work...you never know what you’ll find, he just threw it away. Its like a mini treasure hunt. I tried to get him to find the owner and send it to him, but he didn’t want any part of that idea... I think some of the units, the owner died and the family knew nothing about it. Could also moved away and didn’t even remember anything of value that they put in storage...or and vindictive wife heading for divorce....LOL

Now you’ve burst my bubble: PICKERS is the only one of those shows with anything to recommend it, but lately, it too looks so staged and contrived its appeal is fading fast. ALL of these shows started out, the way everything does, with some semblance of “purity”, then, over time, the formula is deemed to need a little tweaking, and things get staged, contrived, and tiresomely predictable, as in the fake wrangling over price that is a feature of every PAWN STARS transaction.
Rick Harrison willingly goes through this same process EVERY time, and interesting, like American Pickers, you virtually NEVER see him sell anything, only buy stuff. The PICKERS guys, the same thing, like the STORAGE WARS winning bidders:
they always tote up their expenditures, and assure the viewer that they WILL make 20%,50% or double their money when they resell the stuff, which you NEVER see them do.
IIRC that show mainly films auctions in Cali. I heard on one episode that they can not legally keep guns nor automobiles bought in storage auctions IIRC. The auctioneer to sell the weapons even at a storage unit auction would need a Federal License right.
To be honest I believe they fight the gators much more than is necessary. I believe they stir them up to fight by jerking on the lines they catch them with.
But I don’t know for sure.I had a fight with a gator once for his shoes, then found out they don’t wear any.Old Joke from Justin the Cajun cook.

Back in the early 1970's my uncle had a Flea Market/antique store. The way he found most of his purchases was either by driving back areas or by cleaning out basements in older parts of town.
American Pickers seem to be buying for collectors on their clients or customers list. You also have to buy what is selling. Back when my uncle had his place old wood spoke wagon wheels were high demand. A few craftsmen he knew and sold too would turn them in to glass top coffee tables. He used Horse Hanes for the legs which my uncle also watched for. My uncle also collected old pre-prohibition bottles. We would go into the old part of town and dig out the filled up cisterns. It's dangerous to do and you don't have but maybe a 6-8 hour work window before the walls become unstable. When utility water came people threw their trash {also meaning bottles} in the cistern to fill it up.
The selling aspect you question about walk in customers Really not a good idea to do that. There would be some liability issues. Hey everybody guess who just bought.... On the under hand Pawn Stars there shop is secure much more so than a buyers home plus there would be trying to get legal releases to film them etc. Obviously they do sell a considerable amount of merchandise and were doing so before their shows.
That is really frightening that you have to frame it that way, shows how far we have devolved.

I was at an auction about 10 years ago where some guns were found and sold on the spot.
