Word For The Day, December 11, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
nefarious [ni-fair-ee-uh s]
-adj
extremely wicked or villainous; iniquitous
[15951605; < Latin nefārius wicked, vile, equivalent to nefās offense against divine or moral law ( ne- negative prefix + fās law, right) + -ius -ious, with intervocalic s > r]
My old Kitty boy is giving up on life-in the last couple of days, he has barely eaten and only gets out of his favorite basket to lie by the French doors in the sun. This morning, I saw him in the basket, and thought he was gone, but he woke up when he smelled food, and had a few bites before hobbling to his spot in the sun to lie down and sleep for hours.
I’m surprised-as is my vet-he has lived this long, given his hard life before he was brought to the shelter as an adult-he has always been a bit delicate and he is at least 16. I said at this time last year he would not live the summer out-I’m glad I was wrong, but I still hate for him to go...
I’m sorry - it is hard to lose a pet. You’ve given him a good life it appears.
It is indeed-most of my cats have lived to around 19-20, and a couple made 22. But they were either obviously recently lost pets like Yeti boy and/or just little kittens when they were rescued, like Titus and Midget girl.
Many strays rescued as adults off the street/road/forest have suffered permanent damage from injury or malnutrition, and will not live as long as their more fortunate fellow felines. Even knowing that, I always take the one who wants to come to me at the shelter, and ask about the history after it is a done deal...
That’s awfully old for a cat. My old tabby is nearing 13 and still hanging in there. He’s got some tumors of some type, but he’s not suffering.
Oh, I am sorry to hear that he is near the end. When one of my collies couldn’t be coaxed to eat ground meat, I knew he was ready to go. I was determined to nurse him back to health but his body was not able. I’m still sad about losing him, a year later.
i’m sad for you. losing pets is among the saddest things.
I still sing loudly with the stereo on long drives-music has been a form of therapy for everything for me since I was able to sing along with a tune...
