MONTERREY, Mexico Mexico's music world mourned Jenni Rivera, the U.S.-born singer presumed killed in a plane crash whose soulful voice and openness about her personal troubles had made her a Mexican-American superstar.
Authorities have not confirmed her death, but Rivera's relatives in the U.S. say they have few doubts that she was on the Learjet 25 that disintegrated on impact Sunday in rugged territory in Nuevo Leon state in northern Mexico

...openness about her personal troubles...Just once I'd like to see background on a star performer who grew up normal, and is raising a family that way. It would be so refreshing.

A young idolizer commented that she was a great representative of womens struggles. Seems as though everyone is struggling except old white men or just white men in general. Struggling these days means sitting on your a## and expecting things to be handed to you because you deserve it.

Mexicans will raise her up and mourn her as if she was Mother Teresa. They did the same with Selena 20 years ago. It’s a nation full of uneducated boobs. Like ours.

Never heard of her - and I listen to Latin American music - but I’m very sad for her family.

...Rivera was at the peak of her career as perhaps the most successful female singer in grupero, a male-dominated regional style influenced by the norteno, cumbia and ranchero styles.Well, that clears that up!

US-Born, but she’s still Mexican? Not a Hispanic-American even?
So would that make Obama a Kenyan?

It does, actually, if one is familiar with Spanglish music styles of the southwest US and northwest Mexico.

I will say, she had an incredible set of pipes, not my taste in music, but she had talent.
