noun, plural quid·di·ties. 1. the quality that makes a thing what it is; the essential nature of a thing. 2. a trifling nicety of subtle distinction, as in argument.
Etymology:1539, "captious nicety in argument" from M.L. quidditas, lit. "whatness," from L. quid "what," neut. of quis (see who). Sense developed from scholastic disputes over the nature of things. Original meaning "real essence or nature of a thing" is attested in Eng. from 1569.

That’s gorgeous and looks yummy but I so don’t have the patience for assembling it.
I can swing a cat around in the bathroom. No problem. I can also swing one around between the TV and the couch or bed.

I guess we both live in squalor-except my house is ranch/lodge style-after I read your post, I decided to take down and wash the valences and curtains in the upstairs bedrooms-just plain things, nothing fancy-the dust that accompanied their removal was worthy of a storm in the Sahara, and had me sneezing all the way to the washer...
