In the 'old' days you actually needed to walk up to someone in order to converse with them- a calorie burning activity...we are well on our way to that movie 'Wall E'

My dad, who is 66 years old, made a similar observation to yours yesterday. Things were a lot different then. I agree with him about how people are now days. People do not know things because they do not have to remember them in their head.
