I noticed, too, a lot of these folks looked 3rd world-ish, about like Americans will in 20 years if we keep going down the path we are on. Anyhow, who knows how long their wounds festered. Frost damage, insect bites (and spiders, esp. Brown Recluse), electrical or other burn damage, venomous critters, and with MRSA and the seeming Clostridium problems, no one is immune.

Some of those bugs don't mess around and the damage done in a couple of days can be phenomenal. Why anyone would ignore even the smallest wound is beyond me. Stuff I used to blow off as "just a scratch" gets tended to promptly, especially with the kids. (Hydrogen Peroxide is your friend!)

Still, if things go all to heck, knowing maggots can be your friend could be handy.

I suppose that there is no guarantee they'll work but what's the alternative?

You might want to know that there is remarkably little evidence that H2O2 does any good, although it also appears it doesn't hurt anything.
